There are 5 grades in the class.  Each grade is worth a total of 25%.  There are a total of 4 tests (3 tests and a final exam) and 1 project.  10 quizzes are given throughout the semester.  Each quiz equals 10 points and is an average of 10 questions over the chapter.  The total of quizzes will replace the lowest test grade or your final exam if the quiz grade is an 80 or above.

Students may only be exempt from the final exam (test 4) if their quiz grade is an 80 or above and the student chooses to take their quiz average as their final exam score.  If the quiz grade is not an 80 or above, the average will replace the lowest test grade and the student will take the final exam.  Please refer to Hist1301-1302 Grading Scale for further details and a grade score sheet to help calculate and keep track of your average in class.

In history 1301, we discuss from colonial origins through reconstruction, including exploration and colonization of the new world, the American Revolution, westward expansion, the Civil War, and reconstruction.  Hist 1301 starts with the Native Americans crossing into the ?New World? and ends with the reconstruction of Civil War in 1877.

In history 1302, we discuss from big business, big labor, the United States as a world power, the Great Depression, WWI and WWII, Cold War, Vietnam, Civil and woman rights, and modern events within the last 50 years.  Hist 1302 starts with the effects of reconstruction of the Civil War to our current history in 2009.

Due to being part time professor, office hours are 15 - 30 minutes prior to class and after class or by appointment.  Professor Cunningham is always willing to discuss concerns about the class or other issues with students.

There are a wide range of sports for students.  Team sports include Men's Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's Soccer, Women's Softball and Women's Volleyball. Recreational sports feature team and individual competition in a variety of sports based upon interest and enrollment. The recreational sports program features team and individual competition in a variety of sports including Flag Football, Frisbee, Soccer, Water Polo, Softball, Basketball, Golf and many others. The heart of student center and student help is found in the ILC. San Jacinto College's Interactive Learning Centers provide a multitude of technology resources for students. Inside the campus? Interactive Learning Centers, hundreds of computer commons are available to students. These commons are equipped with state-of-the-art computers connected to printers, supplying students with endless electronic resource needs.

Once assigned an account, users have access to the Internet, Microsoft Office, Blackboard and other San Jac-supported applications. Other support is available in the form of students assistants, tutorials, a help desk, media support, a Cyber Caf?, copier access and a computer store.

The Student Success Centers offer Free peer tutoring in a variety of subjects. Peer tutors are CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. These students have excelled in their chosen subject and have been highly recommended by faculty. In addition, the Math Labs on South Campus offer free math tutoring to current students. Tutoring assistance includes all math courses from Pre-Algebra to Calculus I. Our tutors are full-time San Jacinto College English professors and can help you with grammar skills, research, MLA or APA formatting, drafting, revising and editing, as well as writing resumes, cover letters and application letters, to name just a few. Our tutors offer individual instruction based on a student?s needs and abilities. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments may be necessary during busy times in the semester and may be scheduled in person or by phone. For the South campus, it is located in SADM Building, Room 2214. South Campus Library: The library is located behind the Longenecker Academic building/Administration Building.  The Parker Williams Library holds over 63,000 book volumes and magazine titles. The library offers access to a wide array of online bibliographic tools including magazine indexes, many with the full text of magazine articles. Private study rooms are available to students. Laptop computers are available for student use. The library also has a special Texana collection, housed in a separate room on the second floor.

The Police Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. The dispatch direct telephone line is 281-476-1820. South Campus is 281-922-3430. However, if there is an injury or an extreme emergency ? dial 5555 from any phone on campus some pay phones on campus. The police department is located in room 4100 on the first floor of the JD Bruce Student Center.
